Warning: Large post with many pictures!
Ever since Cassie and I have gotten together, I’ve been getting to know her friends whom she grew up with on the East Coast. Spanning over many years, the friendships are deep, they’re fun, and they really know how to have a good time! =) From this group, I had the privilege of meeting Rachel and her boyfriend, Peter. We went on some double dates and I even did a portrait shoot with them in New York City last summer!
Fast forward to this past weekend – Peter popping the question! He’s been planning this proposal for a few weeks and boy did it show from the many extensive emails outlining his plans. Cassie and I returned to NYC this week so it was a perfect excuse to go on another double date together! His original idea of us ice skating together in Central Park was ruined by 70 degree spring weather, but we can’t complain about that =)
We kicked off the day by meeting the couple for brunch at 12:30 at Alice’s Tea Cup on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. It’s a cute little place themed after Alice in Wonderland. And apparently very popular -we waited for 45 minutes before being seated.
After that, we walked through Central Park over to the Whitney Museum to gander at some modern art.
At 4:20 Cassie and I excused ourselves since regrettably we had “dinner plans.”
We headed straight for Belvedere Castle located in Central Park where the rest of Rachel’s friends will be waiting at 5PM. Peter’s “Sinai team” of future doctor friends helped him with all the important logistics: securing a location, bringing balloons, sparkling cider, and coordinating when we could come surprise them. He even had an undercover photographer snapping away ever since we left the museum. I’m sure it was a lot of work, especially since the plan had to change due to the original proposal spot closing at 5PM and they had to find a new place on the fly!
I don’t have photos of the proposal itself -stay tuned for those from Dave Berman! I do have pictures of what was going on behind the scenes though. While Peter was proposing, our group did our best to keep Cassie, Terence, Dan, and Gary quiet since their laughs can be heard miles away!
Gary’s co-worker ran into us while we waited quietly for the signal. His enthusiastic hello was immediately followed by a universal shush. He even stuck around for a bit to see the couple!
We all were sworn to secrecy but Rachel was suspiciously happy in the days leading up to the proposal. We suspected that the secret might have leaked! Afterwards, we asked Rachel if anyone told her. The answer? Nope. Except… Peter was a little too transparent in the days leading up to it. Although who could blame him?? He had good reason to be excited!
Next, we headed over to dinner where more friends will join.
All in all, it was a memorable weekend! Congratulations!!!
